There are fundamentalists in every religion and philosophy. In islam, christianity, atheism, communism, you name it, there will be fundamentalists. People who think there is no truth but their truth. That are sure they are so right that everyone else thinking different is absolutely wrong and evil.
And there are people inspired to do good things, and they find inspiration in those very same religions and philosophies.

A fundamentalist can turn any religion or philosophy into a rigid reason to justify actions of hatred and killing, 'purifying', stating it was the right thing to do. Very dangerous indeed, regardless of the religion or philosophy adhered to.
